Was the phone turned on when it went under? I imagine it would have better chances of surviving if it was not running.
And with the alcohol thing, make sure there is no chance of electricity running anywhere (don't short circuit anything though), otherwise, if the sea didn't kill it, the fire might....
Also, remember that alcoholl often isn't pure, it's dilutted in water.
While you're trying to play Dr, Frankenstein with your pricey paperweight, you probably should consider getting another N900 to use while you don't fix your original one (dunno how long till you finally fix it, if ever)
