You are describing a bit of a different problem that does indeed have two solutions. The first is to follow through with the regular old WPS solution - push the button on the router and away you go, the second is to set the connection up manually through the network settings area.

The only problem WPS poses is that it does not present a simple method on the N900 to ignore WPS and just enter a passphrase instead.
