I'm sure this has been answered in the thread but I don't want to go looking through 176 pages... The only way to prevent the usb port from breaking is to grind down the little teeth on the cable or charge the battery externally right? Are there any other solutions I missed?

Btw I go my N900 in August. The problem has supposedly been fixed?
