Very well said. Even I think this wall of icons and oodles of home screens (1, 3, 4, going up to 9 on N900) is goimg to become a messy way to handle imformation on a mobile device.

How many apps can you open up for each bit of information to be viewed and across how many screen will you keep panning to get at a particular app ?

Its the seamless plugin with the base OS that will matter in the future ... i.e. any app (at least most) should plugin to the main base application to get and deliver some information - much like how Skype plugsin to the contacts to show presence and other information.

So I think W7 (and if Meego can carry this forward) will be the direction to go as mobile platforms mature and the blingy nature of "wall of apps" become a routine and people realise its shortcomings.
