In any case, there will be a command-line version for older tablets. I'm a N810 user and don't own a N900.

A working script should be available in a matter of week (it's just porting the current Python 2.6 script to Python 2.5.4). Packaging may take more time (as I've never managed to push a package to extra-devel)
I don't think a standalone app is really useful, I prefer to see it integrated in other apps. I have a Unix philosophy of things : do one thing and do it well. I'll concentrate on the search and let others concentrate on the integration (I've made a Nautilus and Totem example on Ubuntu, others did integrate it with Boxee, other media center, usenet clients, ...).
I won't be able to do the sample integration for the Fremantle's media player (unless I emulate the n900) but I'll be available to help others integrate it and providing updates to the code.
