blame the website, they spesifically have included n900's user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; en-GB; rv:1.9.2b6pre) Gecko/20100318 Firefox/3.5 Maemo Browser 1.7.4.8 RX-51 N900
into the mobile devices list.

facebook tried to do the same but I guess they got so much bad feedback that it was reverted in under a week. don't suspect sites you mentioned doing the same though...

I can give you a solution but it costs $4,99 per minute
