Last I heard (my info is a month or two old), you couldn't do it via Gmail, b/c there's a software plug-in that needs to be installed & Google hasn't done one that will work on our Maemo devices. And Google hasn't yet created an API that would allow third-party programs to invoke this functionality. So, no, but you're not the only one waiting eagerly for this functionality!
