if something panic's is usually the kernel who is in panic. interessting thing is what made it panic? it tells you!
its own name allone doesn't make it panicing. its not afraid of itself. serious: look at the errormessage.

EDIT: for the flashing: depends what they do with the uboot. i change the kernel several times a day without any flashing...
but you see it in this post: people insist on keeping up flashing....
