I use 91% alcohol (9% water) on a piece of cotton to wipe down the exterior of my mobile phones. A light wipe with a microfibre cloth afterward seems to take care of any residue. Because I do not overly saturate the cotton what alcohol does contact the device is very quickly evaporated. I do this about once a week or more often if I have gotten a call or text while eating barbeque. I've been doing this since 2007 without ill effect..
