But I am sure you don't want to give yourself pain all the time, do you? You also want to see your devices being improved all the time, no? Without demand from users, there will be no real progress.
I don't have pain all the time. I actually have very few complaints about the N900. If I did have a lot of complaints I'd get something else. I'm not locked into a contract or anything. But then, I had an N800 before and apparently unlike many I bought the 900 on the basis of improvements over that rather than on my imagining of what it "ought to do".

Yes, improvements are good. Without a certain level of sales there will be no improvement. Input from users can provide guidance as to what should be improved. None of that has anything to do with hype or whining about things never promised or dick-measuring relative to some other device.
