At any given time you are considering many different possibilities all at the same time; and whichever of those turns out to be the case, then you will feel that you've already thought of that possibility; even though you may may be far from certainty at the time.

I still remember the euphoria of n900 when it was being released and the anticipation of garnering good press reviews, 3rd parties support, ovi store, etc.

The MeeGo announcement (and what followed) hit the community like a ton of brick.
Let's not stay in denial.
I'm not so sure. Near as I can tell, I held off buying one because it felt like too much of a repeat of previous history and waited for positive changes that never came. I'll also point out that changing ITT to TMO was another one of those very, very early hints that made people suspicious "all along" and you'll also note how we lost a LOT of the old members around the time of the N900 release (and just before--when I remember a lot of people suspecting the N900 of being vapour). Nokia hasn't instilled a lot of confidence all along the way, really. The switch to MeeGo was generally surprising but I'm pretty sure people were fully expecting the worst from Nokia, as they've been notorious for it by that time.
