Well, this part is sad when it comes to the closed sources. The community cannot do much to fix any bugs in those. I don't think this is particularly ethical by Nokia and like some guy said earlier here, the period for which this smartphone was supported has been way too short.
It's a little about trust also, why should I trust that Nokia provides better support for the N9 than they did for the N900 when it will arrives? There's really no reason why anyone should trust their support any longer. And don't give me the crap "oh, I'm sure they'll support MeeGo for a long time since that's where Nokia bets their future" because you really cannot know that. MeeGo is still a venture and even if it's very promising we have no guarantees that Nokia will be better in the support for their devices than they have been. I will stick with the N900 for quite a while, but I will be very careful before jumping on the MeeGo / N9 train.
And another thing, I really don't like when I read people in here claiming stuff like "well, you never paid anything for support and there was nothing said that you should expect such".
That is just baloney because when a company sells a smartphone today they are only on the competitive edge if they keep their customers satisfied with their products and that doesn't just mean that their units are sold "as is". You have to look at a bigger picture here, all electronic equipment has bugs and various faults today since embedded devices and projects are far more complex and expensive. Satisfactory quality is only gained by providing fixes and helping the customers in the best way they can and for as long as necessary. This I'm sad to say Nokia is not alone to fail with, but they are for sure far from the better ones (In my opinion, of course).
