I don't know how crippled ffmpeg is on Slax, but first make sure you don't have a firewall blocking the ports 19780-19790. Try using passthrough profile with the n810 client first, since it doesn't require transcoding. If you can listen to music with it, chances are that your vlc/ffmpeg combo is too crippled and you may need to recompile it yourself
