The following worked for me
* install rootsh using the app manager
* close the app manager
* open terminal and type thefollowing commands each line followed by return.
sudo gainroot
apt-get remove qt-maemo-metapackage
apt-get autoremove
* make sure the app manager is closed while issuing the commands.
