It doesn't do any miracles. But it should make it overall more responsive.
(for switching between tasks, web browsing, drnoksnes games etc)

Are you sure it has been overclocked properly?

1. launch xterminal
2. root
3. kernel-config show

Then check the min and max frequency values that it is currently using.
