Just open card door but leave the card in. It will turn off swap an unmount it. Then you can reformat it from command line if that is what you wanted. You can also safely reformat it in PC with card reader or when connected over USB. You can also just delete the .swap file in same way if you want to disable it. System won't be confused since having the .swap file on card is the only way it knows you enabled it in control panel.

As for the corruption I don't know. I never had FAT filesystem corruption with my 770 (or even N800) and I am using my 770 almost 2 years and give it a lot of abuse. Maybe because I don't remove card often and rarely connect it over USB.
