The same reason mass market consumers are obsessed with iStuff, why so many people take Microsoft Office over OpenOffice/KOffice/LibreOffice/WhateverOffice, etc. It's shiny, it's organized, and most importantly, it has more publicity. Most of these people (all of those asking for download links, at this point, obviously) can't scan two pages back for the last instance of the yet-again-posted-NeoPwn-download - what makes you think they pay enough attention to enough threads to even notice that lxp put out the same driver in NeoPwn, completely GPL'ed, etc?

Edit: Yes, Wireshark is in repos. Though I am pretty sure I read the NeoPwn one was N900 UI optimized. Clicking the right stuff and having all the info conveniently on screen is just a pain in the *** in the Wireshark in the repos.
