For surfing the web over a 3g cell phone network I would say it shouldn't matter. I had a Nokia 770 (BT 1.2) and Nokia N800 (BT 2.0) and got the same ~400-500kbps off Verizon in downtown NYC. I think BT 1.2 maxes out at ~900kbps (1 Mbit/s). I don't think any 3g network will get near 900k, but HSPA and 4G are a different story.
