Well there is no problem in trying. I did too but if you flash the kernel first and then the EMMC and start the phone you will not seen words when the homescreen launches.There will be just square boxes in the status bar, the menu, the application names & nothing will work.

That is why the Wiki mentions that you first have to flash the EMMC since it wipes out everything & then flash the kernel for things to load back to a default state.
