Well it doesn't for me for some odd reason
I installed exactly as you instructed minus I installed yours first to partition mmcblk0p5 not partition mmcblk0p6 on my n900.
But this shouldn't make a difference as partition mmcblk0p5 is 8GB in size and the second partition mmcblk0p6 is 7GB in size.

Do I need to apply the gingerbread updates 1 and 2?
As I can try that if needed?

If you can point me in the direction of an Android screen shot .apk application that, I can download and install.

I will post a screen shot of the problem in hand.
