A couple thoughts.
If you don't currently pay for the $15/month Verizon "tethering" option then I think you'll pretty much need something like PDAnet (short of finding a current hack for your 700p, which there may be).
The old method of using your
number@vzw3g.com
/vzw just doesn't work on more recent phones with newer VZW firmware. (Again without hacks) Basically Verizon clamped things down by introducing a new auth server (dun.vzw3g.com) that just has paid access.
FWIW I'm on a Verizon Motorola Q using PDAnet via bluetooth. Works fine. They do have a demo you can try if you want.
