Romain Guy has posted a one-liner that states that Android 3.0 adds hardware acceleration to UI rendering!

Romain Guy: It is for real. Android 3.0 allows applications to turn on hardware acceleration for all rendering operations.
I've literally 'broken' this story 3 minutes after it was posted including writing this message. I should really start a news site.
