Please tell me why Symbian can't be made to work on a Cortex-A8 based SoC.

Sure there will be some abstraction layer tweaks to get Symbian to run on it, but are you seriously suggesting it would be better to design a new device for Symbian than re-purpose one that had been designed for MeeGo? Give it another 12 months and Cortex-A8 hardware will be most definitely mid-range, exactly where Symbian is targeted.
