This is very true. Maemo already struggles for developer support. How many original (not ported) Maemo apps are there? For that matter, how many ported apps are there (outside of libraries)?

The thing is that while I like Maemo/Hildon, I've got to say that I only like it. I don't love it. It's still a bit clunky and non-intuitive.

Android effectively pushes the Nokia tablets to the sidelines. Several of us have been predicting this would happen. Nokia has Apple on the one side, and Google on the other. The other two companies are known for innovation. Nokia is known for making mobile phones that look good. Hmmm...

But let's not write-off Nokia too early It's going to be a year or two before we see an Android phone, and a year or two after that before they perfect it. By that point Nokia should be onto the fabled perfect fifth incarnation of the Internet tablet. They do have a pretty good head start.

Can't help thinking all of this is just terrific for Linux, though Linux never got to the desktop. It just hopped over it and got straight into your pocket.
