If you have the facebook widget on your desktop you can also see the fading of the background waiting for the last 3 steps of making it more blurry until the facebook app stopped sliding to the next post. so im guessing its allot more complex then you think.

I guess the background is replaced or stopped when something pops up. but is waiting until there is no movement of widgets on the background.
