The recent news about Nokia switching to WP7 has frustrated and saddened many people, especially around here.
But no matter how dark the times may seem: never say die! I know it sounds cliche, but for any movement, it is the attitude that counts. One can be cynical yet persistent as long as the idea of openness and freedom remains in sight to inspire the community.
So lets keep our spirits up, there are still indicators that not all is lost.
I'll list some of the positive developments, let's see if we can expand on these:
Obviously there is Intel stating that they will
continue their effort
with Meego, in order to cope with ARM creeping into their lucrative low-end market.
Then there is
this teaser screenshot
about a potential Meego phone by Intel. We all know about the
Aava dev platform
and the
GW990 concept by LG
(unfortunately not put to market) both already running Intel Moorestown a couple of months ago, so there has definitely been done some research by other parties than Nokia. The Aava itself is
no longer available
for purchase though :/
Then there is
AMD (!)
that joined Meego about three months ago (for similar reasons as Intel I would suppose). They have developed their low power Fusion "APU", and have apparently presently quite a
committed open source department
. Obviously Fusion is more targeted towards Netbooks/Nettops, but they might also be looking into the Smartphone sector as both worlds grow closer and closer in the future.
Furthermore, there is also still the hope to be able to run Meego smoothly on phones originally
designed for Android
.
What do you guys think?
