I love Maemo and very likely MeeGo, too.
I think the Maemo and MeeGo development teams (perhaps the same one) are the best!!
The problem is neither Maemo or MeeGo, it's the clue-less and political Nokia Management.

How many years did it take Google to work ONLY ON ANDROID?
How many OS was Nokia developing and which OS was most suitable for future phone features back in 2007?
Who decided to own Symbian completely when it's technically crap for touch screen and difficult to develop 3rd party software compared with other OS?
No mention all the recent legal actions to other companies.
Money is important but without a correct and clear company and technical direction, any actions are burning money.
Nokia is just another old Motorola at this moment and still blind.
Who Stephen Elop should fire is not the Nokia Engineers, it's in face the Management and perhaps Stephen Elop himself.
Nokia Engineers, your Maemo may be not the perfect one yet but it's great. With some more "touch ups" IT WILL BE PERFECT!
Nokia Engineers, stay together as a team if you share the same software vision and if unfortunately you got fired together. Join other company together, coz your shared vision will make a great team in other company and also great products.
