Hmm, that's very strange. Does the icon spin for a while, or it goes back to static right away? Can you try to start it from the command line with:
/opt/usr/bin/Lukija
and see if there are any messages showing up when trying to sync (there are a few warnings about anchors when the app start up you can ignore)?

@geekgirl: if you haven't entered your username, you should get the login screen when the app starts. If you see a "No articles to be displayed" message, then click on the setting button to show it.
