NO ONE here knows whether a Nokia Meego phone was going to succeed - FFS no one here even knows WHAT the Nokia Meego phone IS - no definitive info has been released - how can you argue whether something will succeed or NOT if you dont even know WHAT IT IS ?

You have NO IDEA what management saw of Meego's completion state.
You have NO IDEA the actual financial incentives offered by MS.
You have NO IDEA how much money will be required to make Meego/Ovi into a viable eco system to compete against the other two majors.

In short you have NO IDEA of the main business drivers making this decision.
