You are 100% correct. The Android market is expanding to sell things other than apps, namely movies and books. In fact this was mentioned a year ago during the IO keynote, when the lead speaker made reference to the significance name 'android market' as a market for all types of products and not just apps.

I think this is a very good idea, if the interface separates concerns well enough to have a pleasurable shopping experience.

You can bet that Amazon is going to do the exact same thing, and they will be a force to be reckoned with on the consumable media side.
