If formatting ur memory card solved it then ur memory card was the culprit.

If the same happens in future then
root
umount /media/mmc1
fsck.vfat -a /dev/mmcblk1p1
mount /dev/mmcblk1p1 /media/mmc1

no reboot in this case.
And also there wasn't need to format it though checkdisk via pc on memory card would have solved that
