Thanks for revising the post, it's clear now.
I think that kind of numbers only appear on supercomputing and network gears (routers, vpn endpoints, etc). Devices that are deployed in huge quantities so they become very cost sensitive, AND the users are highly technical/skilled.
Unfortunately this will never happen on the mass of endusers, unless *nixes become 'user friendly' in the traditional sense of the term.
