Yeah, magnets can be a problem; the N900 uses magnetic fields to determine whether the keyboard has been slid out, and can get confused by external magnets. The Maemo wiki here has an entry describing this:

(And yeah, that is one reason I went with the PDair vertical sleeve, it has no flaps or fasteners to worry about. )
