Apple's app store is an unregistered trademark. Furthermore, many assert that it's a fairly generic term that predates the iPhone. I don't know how much protection Apple has on their claim or validity to it either, but anything is possible in the US judicial system. But it seems foolish to me that Apple is willing to spend resources pursuing something so irrelevant to customers.

What was Amazon thinking? They should have done a trademark search. Thankfully, the 'damages' are minimal in that they were live for only a handful of hours. It will be interesting to see if this case will be thrown out, or if Amazon will be forced to pay up for this minor infraction.

My guess? They are going to call it Amazon Apps -- as they should have done from day number one.
