I'll repeat again. It is not an update to Maemo 5. As for firmware - I guess that's terminology. A firmware is a premade image containing software created specifically for a device (and obviously the OS is one part of the firmware). Your current firmware contains Maemo 5 PR1.3. What we're talking about here is another firmware that will contain a build of MeeGo 1.2 optimized for N900 users, the only link between the two is that they are both made for the N900.

I may be expecting too much but hopefully a user can dual boot maemo or meego from the emmc in the near future or at least run it from the SD card at a reasonalbe speed/perfrormance which doesn't seem to be the case at present with meego 1.2 due in just under a month.
That is a question for Jukka, I don't know in what exact shapes and forms will this Developer Edition thing be made available officially. Note that the Developer Edition is not the same thing as mainline 1.2 (and very likely the release of the 'stable' Developer Edition will be trailing the MeeGo release). Honestly, you should not care more about upstream than a Ubuntu user cares about Debian.
