Everyone on this thread needs to stop being cynical. OP sounds like a newbie to the tablet market. That is not a reason why he should be ridiculed. Asking this forum is truly unconventional but it is possibly one of the first few steps of due diligence.

To the OP: I don't know what your target market segment is, but if I were you I would go with either Meego or Android.
Maemo has at least two closed source components that are deal breakers: the graphics and telephony stacks.
Besides, it is unlikely that Nokia will support Maemo any more.

So to summarise: Android or Meego.
My personal preference: Meego.
