Everyone on this thread needs to stop being cynical. OP sounds like a newbie to the tablet market. That is not a reason why he should be ridiculed. Asking this forum is truly unconventional but it is possibly one of the first few steps of due diligence. To the OP: I don't know what your target market segment is, but if I were you I would go with either Meego or Android. Maemo has at least two closed source components that are deal breakers: the graphics and telephony stacks. Besides, it is unlikely that Nokia will support Maemo any more. So to summarise: Android or Meego. My personal preference: Meego.
Hang on a minute here, YOU are designing a tablet?. What pcb design proggy are you using? and just where will you get the protortype built? and how are you going to source single batch components from to build this protortype tablet?. Oh i got many questions like how are you going to actually solder down such components as the cpu for instance, oh and what cpu will you be thinking of using? (among the many other multi functional components). Are you designing a single or multi layer pcb(s)?. Have you got a team of software designers working for you?. This is for sure a windup thread. PS the answers to this post will be interesting to read i am sure.
I think it would be cruel to lead him into thoughts that this will be feasible. He got confused over java and Linux and asked if there were closed sourced components. It doesn't seem like he knows the first thing about software or hardware development. This is a massive task, I've done LFS multiple times and made basic electronic items but I've never considered myself up to scratch to pull of making an entire tablet from nothing at all
I don't think he is planning on doing it all on his own. If he is then I agree that it is an uphill battle most likely to fail even before it gets off the ground. I would like to give OP the benefit of doubt.
