I know it's a total sidetrack.. but wow, I've been out of the Atari world for so long. I didn't realize it's moved on into the open-source OS realm too. :P Apparently, people are still updating the OS all the way up until this February of 2011 update here for SpareMiNT's MyAES (MiNT is a a TOS/GEM replacement for Atari ST/STe/TT/Falcon/etc.,

...note that they slapped GNU on top of MiNT in both cases.
Not bad for ancient hardware--and kinda proves that you can DEFINITELY extend the usefulness and life of an old piece of hardware as long as you have ACTUAL fully open-source friendly hardware!
Atari of olde is long gone, as well as support, but the community seems to keep it going. That's what you get when the company laid out all the specs for you and lets you access the hardware with excellent documentation to let you write your own drivers.
