It won't die on you. For it to die it needs to run at a consistently high temperature to burn out the core. Whack it up to 1000Mhz (1Ghz) and if it's not stable it will simply reboot. kernel-power has a safety net in that it won't load your custom profile after a random reboot.

If it runs at 1Ghz, and doesn't reboot, doesn't get too hot, it's fine. If it starts to reboot after a while or gets uncomfortably hot, downclock it to regain stability. There's no chance of upping the cooling, so the only solution is downclocking.

Also try it out at 1.15Ghz (max allowable clock speed in kernel-power) just to say you have been there.
