I was looking at performing the cable fix myself as I erroneously thought I only had a 12 month warranty and had a terrible experience previously with my Nokia Care Centre and trying to get my N900 fixed for another problem.

So, I have removed the shield for the part of the board by the camera and USB port to get a look at the connections, I have also damaged the keyboard bezel when handling it. Neither of these affect the usage of the device...

My question is, will it affect my warranty as far as having the USB port replaced...I have look but not touched so to speak? What do you guys think?
Technically, I think, opening the N900 at all will void your warranty (though IANAL). You could try taking it in anyway, but I think they'd be within their rights to refuse any repairs under warranty (and if there's obvious damage to the interior then I'd be surprised if they didn't).
