Is there a way to prevent the N900 from automatically checking for updates to installed programms/applications as soon as there's an internet connection? Or at least to restrict such checks to wireless connections?

I ask because going online for just quickly checking some website is otherwise:
a) expensive without an online flat
b) takes more time than necessary since the update check consumes bandwith and cpu power for quite a while
