The only two things that should stand out is when it is loading the contacts for the first time and that it will "hold" some memory. I can't think of any reason to take CPU cycles or disk io.

EDIT: MyContacts on my phone while idle reports 0.0% CPU.
Using Conky, I get top RAM and VMM usage:
modest = 22.4 M and 65.6 M
Xorg = 18.0 M and 35.1 M
mycontacts = 15.0 M and 123 M
osso-addressbook = 14.8 M and 31.7 M

CPU usage topmost:
Xorg, conky, (third one kept changing - but was never mycontacts)

Disk IO:
All zero. None mycontacts.

I don't see mycontacts as being the problem. Modest on the other hand....
