Changing the way the phone works is not an "update". For example I like the lock screen effect in NITDroid, and I'd like to see it in Maemo as well. But would you? Or everyone else? So why should I force it onto you with an update? CSSU team is working on patching up the holes Nokia left in the UI, like portrait mode. They have a hard time, as most of the UI is actually closed source, so they cannot "fix" it, they have to find all those roundabout hacks to make it work. They did not rewrite the dashboard to rotate, they fooled it to make it rotate. You cannot make WebOS like motion gestures, visible status-area or whatever with hacks, you'd have to actually rewrite tho whole damn thing (like MAG is doing now with the Mediaplayer). It's nice to have all this ideas, but please don't make impossible (or out of reach) demands to CSSU team, they have their agenda and making the N900 something it is not is not one of them.
Probably there should be another thread like "How would you improve the N900 UI".
I agree with this comment, asking for dashboard view to appear straight on to your desktop, or some of the phone UI changes that have been requested, might sound popular but it is not something that everyone wants.

I certainly love my dashboard the way it is and do not want any changes done to it, neither do I want to change the way my phone works, if I wanted that I would just buy another phone.

Its great that the CSSU team are putting their efforts into things that Nokia left out, adding in 'portrait' support etc. and even creating a media player that has full portrait mode. But notice the new media player is exactly like the stock one, with the main change being full portrait support.

This is because alot of the community is happy with the way their N900 works and do not want to give it a face lift. They want to keep its functionality but just fine tune it, refine it, add those small tweaks that Nokia failed to provide.

So any personal requests or mods should be left OUT of the CSSU because they are personal requests and mods. Which means not everybody wants them and the community should not be 'forced' to have them. There are many of these mods already available, and many talented devs creating more of these mods, widgets and UI changes.

Put your request and ideas into one of their threads, PM them or create your own thread altogether if you feel you have a good idea.

But the CSSU is for the community so it has to have content that appeals to the community, not just individual ideas that some will love and others will hate.. If that happened, many people would be removing CSSU and going back to normal firmware.

I love the CSSU for what it currently is and for where the team is planning to take it. But if eventually it ended up giving my phone a complete facelift, I would most definitely go back to the stock firmware with all the problems and issues, rather than losing the functionality it offers.
