KMPlayer [info] should work fine [I have used it for certain SMIL files]

Play smil files with some restrictions(*), see tests/ directory in source package for some example SMIL file
(*) obviously mouse in/out-bounds events don't work
...
You will need to install MPlayer and the enhanced GUI front end KMPlayer.
