I'm very curious about this. A faster and/or more MS compatible OpenOffice would be a big motivation for me to put together an Easy Ubuntu package... So far, the only reason I'd put together an Easy Ubuntu is for the improved version of Open Java 6...

What? you really did not see it? What ubuntu are you using? You are sure it's not the old Hasty by Mojo? Stskeeps, johnx or b-man (propably have Mer/Jaunty currently) can confirm it's available?

I installed it yesterday, but it nagged about missing libraries. And everything else nagged too, xomap did not start.. etc.. So it was maybe my bad installation. I'm giving another try for it today...

It looks like there is a bunch of bugs

Code:
root@Nokia-N810-43-7:/# oowriter
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice: error while loading shared libraries: libsofficeapp.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
root@Nokia-N810-43-7:/# apt-file search libsofficeapp.so
openoffice.org-core: /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.0/program/libsofficeapp.so
root@Nokia-N810-43-7:/# apt-get install openoffice.org-core
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
openoffice.org-core is already the newest version.

Well, I just performed a full apt-get upgrade on my N800's Ubuntu Jaunty; it seems to have updated every package in the entire distribution! Anyway, OpenOffice 3 was one of the updates. It upgraded OK, but I wouldn't say that it's any faster than 2.4.

Still testing... Will report here with any news.

Here's the rather weird splash screen...
