Hi,
I recently went for thumb2 on my N900. I had one problem that every reboot the phone ran fsck on the MyDocs so reboots were quite slow. I have Kernel Power53 for a long time. No issues with the phone so far. But now I think I messed it up.

What I had was the following repos enabled (as far as I recall):
maemo
thumb
cssu
cssu dev
extras

Apt-get update was always running into an error. I found out if extras is enabled this caused this error.
So I disabled extras and update was running fine.
My mistake was now to run apt-get upgrade. It showd about 40mb to download. When I checked for the phone moments later it asked if I wanted to replace kernel power with a omap one since newer. This is when I did crlt c and got a little scared. So I scrolled the terminal but every version apt-get went to update was newer than the one installed. So I thought whew I am save.
I thought wrong. I did a reboot because of all the updates done.
Now the phone swichtes on. Showes the Nokia logo. But then the led flashes orange a couple of times (not always) then once green and the screen just stays blank.

How do I proceed since I have thumb2 running to get the phone back to working condition?
What went wrong with apt-get upgrade? Is it a nogo on a N900 always?

Thx for any help or pointers!

The CSSU-dev repository might have caused this fatal update. You might read here: https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...93&postcount=2

There is a rescue image for the N900 https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=75369 to flash temporarily from a PC.
If it is just a messed up kernel and modules, this might help...

Try to install the kernel, kernel-flasher and the kernel-modules for the thumb2, either kernel-power or kernel-thumb should work.
Code:
apt-get install kernel-power=2.6.28-10power53 kernel-power-flasher=2.6.28-10power53 kernel-power-modules=2.6.28-10power53
Here is the documentation for the rescue OS https://github.com/NIN101/N900_Rescu...umentation.txt You might find it helpful to read it.

Good luck

hmm it seems more is broken. I did a reflash of rootfs.
I am at my parents so I had W7 x64 bit only. Was kind of tricky to find a solution:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=20
I had to manualy uninstall the driver W7 had selected first in order for the described steps to work.
Got the flasher and the kernel from here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20131117...maemo_releases
Now the phone is up and running again. It might be the cleanest way. Lots of tweaking the last couple of years might have messed it up anyway.
So now back to get Kernel Power and maybe thumb. Aaannd tweaking the os to lock and feel like before...

Thx for the fast response!

Danke gleichfalls!

PS: good thing now is that the phone boots when charging. Didn't do for a long time. Just got stuck always.

You probably lost thumbsupport when accidentally upgrading the kernel. Besides flashing the a kernel with thumb support with the flasher, but I don't know how to flash a kernel besides from the normal rootfs image, but that won't help you as you don't need the default omap kernel but the kp53 one.

Yes thats what I figured. I just reflashed the 1.3 PR Kernel (which is default omap) and then went back to Kernel Power and Community CSSU.
I did not flash the whole device so I did not loose MyDocs etc.
Flashing a thumb Kernel directly (if possible) would also probably reset the rootfs, so before messing I figured using the tried and reliable way is less likely to brick my phone.

I will "upgrade" to thumb again when everything is back to "normal"

There was a thread a few years ago on building a flashable image from a backupmenu backup. That would be great in addition to the stock images we have.
I guess the time is far past to expect or even hope for a backupmenu feature upgrade to check for and and save a kernel image for flashing backups to failed kernel upgrades. It would have been beyond awesome for backupmenu to have also saved an image ready for flasher.

Flashing kernel is flashing kernel not rootfs. I don't play with n900 anymore but IIRC it can be donve via flasher -k image -f and kernel image can be extracted from deb package.

biketool, insted of dreaming about new features try 0xffff
