I have an N900 with regular + latest power kernel.
With either whilst the kernel boots, after the flashing dots and nokia logo, not desktop appears and the device "appears" hung.
nitdroid V12 boots fine, and from there I can access the maemo filesystem :-)

Whilst I'm very familiar with linux, I am less so with maemo itself -- need to poke around for log files etc to figure out why the desktop doesn't start. I have a feeling perhaps the khweeteur experimental app installed something into bootup (as it was popping up errors when maemo was booted - before I decided to remove it).

Nothing obvious in startup yet, so suggestions welcome to
- pause the boot at an appropriate time and start rest of startup manually (switching default runlevel perhaps?)
- identifying relevant logs to determine cause of failure

I'm perfectly ok doing a reflash (done it many times....) just intrigued...

There is no chance that it s come from Khweeteur

Even if there is error in the code (which is possible), it startup a new process which are detach from the startup process. So even if it crash (what happen sometime during my development), i confirm there is no link. So probably something else.

And the notifications which aren't discard are displayed again after a restart, it s an default hildon feature to avoid loosing missed call when out of battery.

Take a look if there is some log in /var/log

thanks for taking the time to reply - I was just thinking what I'd done in last session. Sadly nothing useful in /var/log (in nitdroid mounted on /mnt/initfs/var/log )

Will probably have to have a poke around when I get home - too many files modified in last 24 hours to easily do a quick find.

Tried adding a force fsck (why not) for kernel power -- this ran thuogh as expected clearly isn't the startup issue.

I get kernel boot, then nokia hands logo, then a blank screen. am sure phone is booted, Lock button turns backlight on/off though screen is black, other keys have no effect.

Ok so no idea. Am going to ask a question about debugging desktop startup in the fremantle forum. seems most appropriate
