Only if they didn't ask for permission to republish it.

" It’s just not particularly wise to allow engineers to make decisions about things like product and service nomenclature, interface typography and the graphic design of icons: they’re, I daresay, not even neurocognitively equipped to do so."

That's actually a misunderstanding. As an engineer, if you tell me "make it user friendly" I can make it user friendly but if instead you say "make it cheap" I can do that too. Engineers doing a lot of mid-level work aren't often actually deciding what should be done, they're just the implementation step.

I didn't know about the hatred for gizmodo. I tend to be technologically agnostic.

As someone else mentioned, the article is written by an ex-Nokian. On the blog that gizmodo got this from, the author says that “Until just a few weeks ago, I was head of design direction for service and user-interface design at Nokia.” I realize an ex-Nokian could be like a jilted ex-friend, but I still thought it was interesting view inside Nokia.

After reading the article, I'm not sure where devices like the n800, n810, n900 fit in the author's view of Nokia. He makes it sound like a place that only makes a product if they will be selling millions.

The article is probably more interesting to me since I am an engineer at a corporation that similarly only makes products if they will be selling millions. I work with designers and see them often lose battles due to concerns over cost.

I'll go back to lurking.

The Gizmodo hatred is mainly because of two things... the perceived allegiance to anything Apple and it's an American blog.

Both of which get people all frothy mouth mad around these parts for some reason.

What is this 'journalism' thing of which you speak?
