I take a wild guess that you are talking about UT, right?
'cos the version numbers sound ubuntuish...

So how come app creators/maintainers have to do a darn bit to their babes when the OS version changes? That sounds to me like the upgrade scheme has been botched...

When canonical abandoned the works..
Not only did they leave a ball un-thrown for ubports to pick up...
But also I think canonical really didn't help much either...
They simply handed the keys over...and said "bye"...
That is what I glean from it anyway...
Since the ubports team picked up UT they have actually has been chugging away at streamlining and bringing the OS into the present.
They inherited a snarl of a hairball that canonical coughed up and left.

That and a couple other little things.

I give them and Plasma Mobile about the same chrono time ...and both will be pretty much at the same level when they have worked their respective bugs out...

So for the moment I would rather muck about with other OS's ...until their's are ready for prime time.
and any day or week or month from now ...for either / or PM ...or UT ...
Things can move rapidly...
Who knows when a breakthrough moment will occur that dramatically speeds up their timelines...?

But for the moment...
I would rather use Maru and Bliss ...and wait for (alpha) Leste...

Back in the day ....when Bora was used ...lets call it maemo 2..
and chinook ....lets call it maemo 3...
were being superseded by Diablo ...maemo 4....
What apps were really wanted ...had to be reworked some...
to run on diablo...
and yet again...what few apps were really wanted from the past ...
had to be reworked to run on maemo 5...
who did that?

It was the creators and maintainers of the apps...
If guys working on Leste finish it...
and it means that to run maemo 5 apps...
and most need to be reworked to run on the new Leste....
Is it the OS Teams' job?
or is it the creators and maintainers of the apps whose hard work and code went into it...?
It is not the right of anyone else but the creators and maintainers frankly...or their permission to do so in their place....

When android or iphone come out with a new revision / release... and old apps for past releases don't function optimally on the new release...
It sure as hell isn't the OS teams responsibility...to deal with apps and their maintenance....
In all fairness ...the best any team can do is try to provide a blanket backward compatibility...
It doesn't mean it's bulletproof...or non-glitch-ified apps for everyone.

Gone are the days of the completely walled roofed and floored garden (prison) ...
All OS's have 3rd party apps available by individuals now...
So ...it is up to the creators and maintainers of those apps ...or their proxy's ...to maintain them.

I need to update my sig again..

I killed off PM reluctantly on one..that had Lineage oreo 8.1...
now put Lineage back on...(until Leste is alpha ready)...

I killed the original Lineage oreo 8.1 I was using on another as my daily...and put Maru OS (8.0 believe it is ..)
messed with it a bit ...haven't done a lot....
a bit of a downer I couldn't change the de at this point..(perhaps in the near future...)

I hemmed and hawed ...finally ..snuffing UT on another...
(I like the interface....and yeah it does the trick in a pinch...but it is lacking the apps..)
and just put Bliss OS oreo 8.1 on it...
and am now using it as my daily...
But I haven't had much of a chance to dive in and enjoy it...
since I immediately afterward began puttering getting Bliss on one of my laptops ...so I could have (a quasi ) convergent setup with pc and phone...
while trying to do my 9-5 at work as well...

I am hoping in another week and a half to begin having enough time to tweak the Bliss systems to my liking...
it depends....
those plans could be on hold...
If Leste gets half done in wizzup's...wicket's...(or whoever gets there first) Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven...
I may spend my upcoming days off with it instead...

One thing I just can't omit..
NO MATTER WHAT THOUGH...
whether at work or at home in my studio or shop or in the house...
even while sitting working away on the nexi I have..
I have an n800 always running...either music or film...
The battery life...screen size ...forward facing grill speakers and 2 sd card slots make it perfect for grinding away on music and film wherever I go...
whereas the nexus 5 has 2 tiny bottom bezel speakers...a decent screen...zero sd slots...and I would say adequate non-swappable batt life at best.

So...no matter what ...my luverly n800's aren't going anywhere for a long long time yet...

looks like ubports got libertine working a bit better...
on the 16.04 the desktop app installation now appears simple and painless compared to what it used to be for 15.04 ....
that is good news...
