Although the article "Can the Cellphone Help End Global Poverty?" is a year old IMO it's still worth reading. The New York Times for the NY Times Magazine did a profile article about Nokia researcher Jan Chipchase. It's a very well written and interesting article that might give a bit of insight to where mobile phones are going over the next five or ten years.
Bravo to Nokia for hiring and letting Chipchase do real "boots on the ground" ethnogenic style research. It's a pretty rare thing these days.
